Arsenal star Partey links up with Ghana squad ahead of World Cup playoff vs Nigeria
Published: March 21, 2022Thomas Partey has linked up with the Ghana squad ahead of their 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria on Friday, March 25, according to multiple press reports in Ghana including Ghanaweb.
Partey has been in red-hot form for Arsenal in the Premier League and was named as the club's Player of the Month for the very first time earlier this month, edging out Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka to win the accolade.
In the weeks leading up to the game between Nigeria and Ghana, most of the talk centered around a possible matchup of Partey against Wilfred Ndidi in midfield, but the anticipated duel will not happen again with the Leicester City star withdrawing from the roster due to a serious knee problem.
Partey is one of the players in line to captain the Black Stars on Friday, with substantive skipper Andre Ayew not available for selection due to suspension.
The Ghana Football Association continue to play hide and seek over the identities of the players summoned for the games against Nigeria but some of the invited players have started reporting for international duty.
The Black Stars will depart Accra for Kumasi on Tuesday, March 22 to begin preparations for the first leg of the playoff against the Super Eagles.
Partey was part of the Atlético Madrid team that defeated the Super Eagles B team 3-2 in a friendly staged in Uyo back in May 2018.
