'He wants to play for us' - Polish FA chief scout insists Man Utd CM has chosen Poland over Nigeria
Published: March 24, 2022Maciej Chorazyk, head of foreign scouting Poland Football Association, has insisted that Manchester United central midfielder Maximilian Oyedele has committed his international future to Poland over Nigeria and England.
First year scholar at the Red Devils, Oyedele is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father, Poland through his mom and England where he was born.
The Anglo-Polish-Nigerian starlet made his international debut on Wednesday when he started and was in action for 61 minutes as Poland U18s were held to a 2-2 draw by Switzerland in a non-binding game.
Oyedele could have made his debut for Poland youth team earlier but he did not have a Polish passport and the coronavirus pandemic was another stumbling block.
The Polish Football Association had been keeping tabs on the progress of Oyedele at Manchester United for three to four years before handing him his maiden call-up this month.
"Maxi has an ID card and a Polish passport. He speaks Polish poorly, but understands a lot," Chorazyk told WP SportoweFakty.
"In this case, we watched him all the time and were close to him.
"I don't see an option for him to want to change to a different representation. He wants to play for us.
"This is a multi-functional player who can play in the six and eight".
Oyedele made his debut for Manchester United in the Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League in the current season, and was a schoolboy when he played his first game in the U18 Premier League.
