Nwaneri scores for Arsenal youth in 4-1 rout of Garuda Select side coached by ex-Chelsea captain
Published: April 05, 2022Promising attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is living up to the billing as one for the future after another outstanding performance for an Arsenal academy team consisting of U16 and U18 players in a 4-1 win over a Garuda Select side in a friendly on Tuesday, April 5.
The Garuda Select regularly competeĀ against the academy sides of professional teams and are coached by former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise.
It was the team made up of mostly Indonesian players that broke the deadlock through Hokky in the eighteenth minute but their lead lasted only five minutes as Omari Benjamin found the net from close range to level matters.
On the half hour mark, Nwaneri made it 2-1 with a an accurate shot from outside the box that found the left corner of the net.
In the 68th minute, Brian Okonkwo, on as a substitute, made a stunning save to prevent Garuda Select from scoring with a header .
Arsenal got their third goal through Kamarni Ryan with four minutes remaining and Luis Brown wrapped up the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time.
Nwaneri, who is 15 and a schoolboy, is being fast-tracked into the Gunners U18 squad, making three starts in the U18 Premier League so far this season.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent has directly participated in three goals (1 goal, 2 assists) in those games.
