Two Nigerian midfielders' strikes nominated for Reading Goal of the Season
Published: April 28, 2022Two Nigerian midfielders Tom Dele-Bashiru and Ovie Ejaria have been named on a 12-man shortlist in the running to win Reading Goal of the Season award, according to the official website of the Royals.
Nigeria U23 international Dele-Bashiru has received a nomination for his effort against Peterborough United in the Championship on September 14, and ex-Golden Eaglets invitee Ejaria for his goal against Fulham four days later.
With two minutes remaining against Peterborough United, the Watford loanee reestablished Reading's two-goal cushion with a thunderous shot that beat the goalkeeper.
Ejaria netted his second of the afternoon in the 53rd minute of the contest as Reading defeated Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage, slotting home on the turn after exchanging passes with Alen Halilovic.
The other eleven goals in the running to receive the award were scored by John Swift (2), Andy Carroll, Tom Holmes, Deanne Rose, Junior Hoilett, Natasha Dowie, Emma Harries, Lucas Joao, Tom Ince and Josh Laurent.
The winner of Reading's Goal of the Season will be announced at the club's 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Wednesday, May 4.
