Big five Euro Leagues : Osimhen powers in header, Chukwueze scores superb goal, Simon hits brace
Published: April 30, 2022Three attack-minded Super Eagles players were on target in the big five European Leagues on Saturday, few weeks before the Nigeria Football Federation announce a roster for the upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador.
At the Diego Maradona Stadium, Victor Osimhen was involved in two goals as Napoli thrashed US Sassuolo 6-1 in the Italian Serie A.
After seeing his effort come off the post, the number 9 rose high and powered in a header to give Napoli a two-goal advantage on fifteen minutes, and Hirving Lozano turned in a cross from the Nigerian in the 19th minute to make it 3-0.
Osimhen has now scored thirteen league goals this term, equaling his personal record of goals in a single season in the big five European Leagues.
La Liga strugglers Alaves managed to defeat Champions League semifinalist Villarreal 2-1 at Mendizorrotza Stadium.
The home side were two goals up inside 30 minutes courtesy of strikes from Victor Laguardia and Gonzalo Escalante.
Two minutes after the break, Chukwueze pulled a goal back for the visitors after a superb run but Fernando Pacheco, making his 250th appearance for the home team, was culpable in goal.
In the French Ligue 1, Moses Simon's brace could not earn Nantes three points as they played out a 2-2 draw with Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Simon scored the all-important first goal for the Canaries in the eighth minute and doubled the advantage at minute 32 when he reacted first to a loose ball and slotted home.
The Super Eagles winger has now directly participated in fourteen goals (6 goals, 8 assists) in the Ligue 1 so far this season.
