Porto's Nigeria national teamer Sanusi reacts to winning MOTM award against Benfica
Published: May 08, 2022Nigeria national teamer Zaidu Sanusi was delighted to be named Man of the Match in Porto's 1-0 win over Benfica, after scoring arguably the most important goal of his career considering that his strike made the Dragons Primeira Liga champions for the thirtieth time in their history.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the left-back finished off a counter attacking move with a half volley to hand Porto all three points.
Sanusi underlined that Porto winning the Primeira Liga was more important than him picking up an individual accolade.
It hasn't always been smooth sailing for Sanusi as evidenced in the defender losing his spot in the Super Eagles and Porto starting lineups when the season started.
However, he is now back in favour for club and country having been involved in all but one of the matches played by Porto since his return from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he went the distance in three out of the four games played by the national team.
In quotes relayed by the official website of Porto, Sanusi said : "Thank you very much for the man of the match award, the most important thing in my life was the championship we won today.
"The important thing was to win the game, we needed to win, the most important thing was the victory of the team."
Sanusi was in the Porto side that won the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in December 2020.
