Super Eagles coach Peseiro praises two Mexico stars whom he worked with at Porto
Published: May 28, 2022Ahead of Saturday evening's international friendly, Super Eagles coach José Peseiro has praised two Mexico players, with whom he worked with at Portuguese giants Porto.
Central midfielder Héctor Herrera flourished under Peseiro, playing 18 games during the 2015-2016 season, in which he was involved in seven goals, while winger Jesús 'Tecatito' Corona had a hand in five goals from 15 games that same season.
Herrera is set to complete a summer move to MLS outfit Houston Dynamo from La Liga side Atlético Madrid and Tecatito is on the books of Sevilla.
Speaking to reporters at Friday's pre-match press conference, Peseiro said : "Good guys, good players.
"He wasn't very lucky at Porto Herrera, well he was lucky because he went to Atlético de Madrid, he was able to win more things, but at that time when I was there the team wasn't very strong, but Herrera and Corona, apart from good players, good people and they were playing in the best league in the world, not now, Herrera signed with Houston, but when you sign with Atlético in the Spanish league, that says it all".
Peseiro also coached a third Mexico national team player in Miguel Layún during his time as Porto coach.
Mexico boss Gerardo Martino confirmed at the presser that Héctor Herrera will not play against the Super Eagles because he joined the team yesterday and his league finished a week ago.
