Possible solutions for the worst performing players during Super Eagles' loss to Mexico

Albeit a disappointing result, the friendly game against Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Texas was an eye-opener and so many issues were laid bare.

Some players generally performed well, others averagely, while some dropped worse performances.

This article from allnigeriasoccer.com discusses who the worst performing players in the game are, and possible solutions for them going forward.

William Troost-Ekong

Despite his best efforts, the Watford defender was unable to keep up with the pace of the Mexican attackers.

He wasn't just off the pace though, his organization, leadership and communication were nonexistent.

His own goal to give Mexico the win was accidental, but it was just the crown to an absolutely abysmal performance.

Solution :  Peseiro may need to look for a new centre-back. Troost-Ekong wasn't at his very best for Watford either and international games can not afford passengers.

However, if the Super Eagles manager still sees Troost-Ekong as being able to keep up, he may need to alter his tactical set-up to give more protection to the 28-year-old.

Chidozie Awaziem

Against Mexico today, Awaziem's performance was mixed. Occasionally, he was great but most times he couldn't keep up.

Worst of all, his communication with Bassey was non-existent. Sometimes his hesitation led to the Rangers defender being isolated against Mexico's flank-men.

Solution :  The 25-year-old should be given more time to come to grips with closing down half-spaces in a back three and he may improve.

Moses Simon

Understandably, Simon was playing out of position and it was obvious by the wrong positions he took up in his defending duties.

Solution :  Should never be used as a wing-back in international matches anymore.  He doesn't have the skillset for this and may cost Nigeria some games in the future.
