Early team news Super Eagles: Chelsea product ready to face Ecuador; Lorient star serious doubt
Published: June 01, 2022According to the latest press release from the Nigeria Football Federation, Chelsea academy product Ola Aina is in contention to make his first international appearance in the United States when the Super Eagles take on Ecuador at the 25,000-capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey on Friday morning.
The Torino defender was omitted from the matchday squad against Mexico on Sunday morning after sustaining an injury during the team's first training session in Texas.
However, Aina has been able to overcome the injury and trained with the squad on Tuesday, putting him in contention to feature against Ecuador.
In the absence of the right-back, manager Jose Peseiro opted to start the game against Mexico with a three-man central defence, before switching to a conventional four at the back.
Lorient midfielder Innocent Bonke has emerged as a serious doubt, having failed to recover from the injury that saw him replaced by Sani Faisal at the end of the first half against El Tri.
Emmanuel Dennis has seemingly recovered from the knee injury that kept him sidelined for the last three matches contested by Watford in the Premier League.
The match between Ecuador and Nigeria kicks off at 8pm ET (1am Nigeria time on Friday) at the venue that is the home of New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer, and which was opened in March 2010.
