Eight things to note on Nigeria's starting lineup against Ecuador
Published: June 03, 2022Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup ahead of Friday morning's international friendly against South American opponents Ecuador at Red Bull Arena Stadium situated in New Jersey.
Allnigeriasoccer.com's editorial staff brings you eight things to note on the starting lineup to face La Tricolor.
1) The eleven players selected in the starting lineup have an average age of 25.27 years, with William Troost-Ekong and Semi Ajayi the oldest at 28.
2) Five of the starters are classed as homegrown players by the English Premier League, namely Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo and Semi Ajayi. The aforementioned players were born abroad with the exception of the Hale Ender.
3) Of the players named in the starting lineup, only one player in Troost-Ekong started Gernot Rohr's first game in charge of the Super Eagles on September 3, 2016. Moses Simon came off the bench in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.
4) Francis Uzoho is making his fourth consecutive start for the Super Eagles for the first time since 2018 (March 23 to October 16) when he appeared in eleven straight games.
5) Troost-Ekong has started all the eight matches played by the Super Eagles in 2022 - the only player in the starting lineup to do so.
6) Two players have been included in a Nigeria youth team squad for a FIFA tournament. They are Francis Uzoho and Moses Simon.
7) With the inclusion of Sani Faisal in the starting lineup, three players have now made their full debuts under Jose Peseiro, the others being Cyriel Dessers and Terem Moffi.
8) Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo is playing his 69th game for club and country in 2021-2022, with 12 in the colours of Nigeria.
