Three top and worst performers of Nigeria's 1-0 loss to Ecuador

The Super Eagles' second game under new coach Jose Peseiro ended in a 1-0 defeat to Ecuador at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

After losing 2-1 to Mexico just a few days earlier, Jose Peseiro's Super Eagles were dealt another defeat in the early hours of today.

Jose Peseiro made tweaks to the 3-5-2 formation he adopted against Mexico. He changed up the tactics to a flat 4-4-2 and instructions were given to Sani Faisal to compress space when out of possession and try to stretch the opposition when in possession.

The Portuguese kept his two striker system with Moffi and Dessers starting, but it didn't work out.

Allnigeriasoccer.com will be highlighting three players who delivered top-class performances and three others who had a game to forget.

Top-class performers

Alex Iwobi : Everton midfielder Iwobi put in a performance to remember despite being kept in a slightly withdrawn role.

Allnigeriasoccer.com was mostly impressed with his discipline and commitment to the tactical change he had to undergo.

His withdrawn role did not affect his creativity as he drove the team forward with excellent line-breaking passes from the midfield base.

Calvin Bassey : The Rangers defender was great in his left-back role. Despite a few positional mistakes, he kept El Tricolor's defenders on their toes with driving runs and outstanding deliveries into the box.

Would have gotten a few assists if the strikers brought their shooting boots to New Jersey.

Francis Uzoho : The goalkeeper has shown excellent mental resilience to come back from a nightmarish performance in the World Cup qualifiers to performing admirably today.

He spared the blushes of the team as he made one world-class save after another.

Allnigeriasoccer.com commends his save from Cifuentes's curling shot as his positioning and timing were world-class.

Worst performers

Chidozie Awaziem : The defender made a lot of defensive errors, and he didn't appear to be in peak physical condition. Before the second half began, Ola Aina replaced him.

Terem Moffi : Two big chances were missed by the Lorient striker. He was slow and ineffective on the ball until the 85th minute when he was replaced.

Moses Simon : Might have argued that he played for Ecuador if he wasn't putting on the Super Eagles colours.

Disrupted attacking sequences at times with too much dribbling or running blindly into less-effective areas. Lost the ball too many times and was a pressing trigger for Ecuador.
