Ex-Chelsea & Arsenal stars, 20 others train with Super Eagles in Abuja; Rangers duo expected
Published: June 05, 2022The Super Eagles held their first training session in the country's capital Abuja on Sunday, June 5, 2022, four days before they step out on to the MKO Abiola National Stadium turf for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier Group A clash against Sierra Leone, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The three-time African champions suffered narrow defeats to Mexico and Ecuador in two friendly games staged in the United States as part of their preparations for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and São Tomé.
Manager Jose Peseiro monitored twenty four of the invited players at close quarters during the workout.
Former Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo, Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Brentford's Frank Onyeka, Porto's Zaidu Sanusi, Leicester's Ademola Lookman, Leon Balogun, Hapoel Jerusalem's Adebayo Adeleye, Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze, Almeria's Umar Sadiq, Stoke City's Oghenekaro Etebo and skipper Ahmed Musa who were not part of the traveling squad to United States have reported for international duty and trained with their international teammates today.
Chelsea product Ola Aina, former Arsenal stars Alex Iwobi and Semi Ajayi also participated in the training session, along with goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Adewale Adeyinka, William Troost-Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Sani Faisal, Innocent Bonke, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Cyriel Dessers and Emmanuel Dennis.
Rangers duo Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo were yet to join the team in Abuja as at lunch time on Sunday and the same applies to Omonia Nicosia fullback Abdullahi Shehu.
Peseiro met and familiarized with eleven of the invited players who were unable to make it to the United States during breakfast and lunch periods.
