2023 AFCONQ : Three Sierra Leone players Super Eagles need to be wary of
Published: June 05, 2022The 2023 AFCON qualifiers, where Nigeria will be pitted against Sierra Leone, Sao Tome, and Guinea-Bissau, will be the real test for the Super Eagles under Jose Peseiro.
After two consecutive defeats to Mexico and Ecuador, Peseiro would be looking for ways to shore up his system ahead of the upcoming games.
In football, there are no easy teams to beat and Sierra Leone are in possession of some dangerous players who need to be contained.
Allnigeriasoccer.com will be taking a look at some of these players.
1) Amadou Bakayoko : The 26-year-old striker was a key member of the Bolton Wanderers team that finished ninth in the League One last season.
With a goal involvement of 18 in 37 appearances across all competitions in 2021-2022, the Super Eagles will be facing a player in a rich vein of form with an impressive goal-scoring record.
2) Mustapha Bundu : Currently on the books of Belgian powerhouse RSC Anderlecht but played on loan at Danish club Aarhus GF last season.
The pacy winger is highly creative on the flank if afforded the space to do so.
3) Mohamed Buya Turay : Henan Songshan Longmen's 27-year-old forward is a striker who currently plies his trade in the Chinese Super League.
Before that, he made a name for himself in Sweden, scoring 32 goals in 65 Allsvenskan appearances, and he's not just a goalscorer but a goal provider as well, setting up his teammates 12 times during his spells at AFC Eskilstuna, Dalkurd FF and Djurgårdens IF.
Peseiro should devise a strategy to keep the forward from posing a threat to the Nigerian Super Eagles' defence.
