Sadiq reveals what Super Eagles players told themselves after World Cup miss & more

Almeria star Umar Sadiq will be full of confidence heading into Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone at the National Stadium in Abuja.

The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist recently helped Almeria achieve their main target of promotion to La Liga, with a remarkable goal involvement of 30 in 36 appearances.

However on the international stage, things were not all rosy for Sadiq through the course of the 2021-2022 season as he was part of the Super Eagles squad that crashed out of the AFCON in the round of 16 stage before failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

The former Rangers and AS Roma striker has revealed exactly what the Super Eagles players told  themselves after missing out on the World Cup after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana in March.

"We are all getting ready for the game because after the World Cup qualifiers we looked at ourselves, telling ourselves that we have to be back stronger and we have to show that we're back stronger," Sadiq told NFF TV.

The lanky attacker went on to reveal his delight at Almeria's promotion to the Spanish top-flight and shared his impressions on his first training with the Super Eagles in Abuja on Sunday.

"For me playing in La Liga is a dream come true. Finally we got the ticket to La Liga and cannot wait.

"My first training with the team, we did all the training with the ball and you can see we are just trying to understand what he wants and we all hope we can give him what he wants," added Sadiq.

One of the stars of the Dream Team VI squad at the 2016 Olympic Games, Sadiq scored on his full debut for the Super Eagles in a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
