Every word Aribo said on win vs Sierra Leone, Super Eagles display, what the team needs to do better

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo was the Super Eagles player selected to face the cameras shortly after their 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday evening.

After Jonathan Morsay opened the scoring with a diving header in the 11th minute, an exchange of passes between Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon ended with the former emphatically finding the far corner of goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara's post at minute 16.

Four minutes before halftime, Victor Osimhen scored what proved to be the game-winning goal as he poked the ball home from close range from a Simon header off Ola Aina's cross from the right.

Aribo, who went the full ninety for the fourth consecutive game for the Super Eagles, missed a chance to put Nigeria 3-1 up in the second half and it was his last-second intervention that denied the Leone Stars a goal in added time.

The Super Eagles number 10 was asked to share his thoughts on the win, the unconvincing performance by the players and what the team needs to do to get better in upcoming matches.

Here's every word Aribo said at the post-match press conference :

We start with Joe Aribo. Joe what do you think about the win? It's the road to 2023 AFCON and we started with a win.

I think it is important that we got a win in the first game. You know that we want to take the momentum into the next game coming and it was very important that we started this campaign with the three points.

Congratulations for the victory but it was not a convincing performance. What would you attribute this to?

Like you said we could have played better, we know ourselves we could have played better. It's our first game with our coach, with all of us together, we are going to improve, we are going to get better in the games to come.

We can always improve, we are definitely going to get better and stronger in the games to come.

We played two friendly matches, we lost both friendly matches and had a game today here in Abuja and for a lot of persons they were saying they were not impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles. However, a win is a win. Going forward what do you think the Super Eagles should be able to do better because the other team in that group won their game by five goals to one?

I think your question is similar to the first one so I'm going to say the exact same thing. It's like our first game together as a group, we are going to improve one hundred percent.

We are working with new tactics, new philosophy so of course we are going to get better and improve in the games to come.
