Peseiro reveals his main goal in 2023 AFCONQ against Sao Tome and Principe
Published: June 13, 2022Jose Peseiro has revealed that his main goal in Monday afternoon's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe is to win and play well.
The Portuguese manager is aware of the fact that the Super Eagles may have beaten Sierra Leone 2-1 in their AFCONQ opener four days ago but they were far from their best.
And the three-time African champions had to come from behind to register the win, thanks to Victor Osimhen's close range effort four minutes before halftime.
Sao Tome and Principe started their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign poorly, conceding five goals against Guinea Bissau after taking the lead.
Peseiro has played down talk of beating the underdogs by a wide margin, saying the three points is all that matters.
Speaking at Sunday's pre-match press conference, Peseiro told reporters : "First we want to win and play well, this is the main point, the main goal.
"We don't think about 1-0, 2-0, we want to win, we want to score and play well.
"We need to work better, a match is a match. We need to show tomorrow from the first to the last minute that our team is better than Sao Tome.
"In football anything can happen , yu can shoot 30 times the ball won't enter, the opponent one time can score 1-0.
"Football is the best sport activity in the world, the result is less than the others."
The last time the Super Eagles played in Morocco, they defeated Liberia 2-0 in a 2022 World Cup qualifier staged in Tangier in November 2021.
