Sao Tome and Principe v Nigeria: Three best and worst performers of the game
Published: June 13, 2022The Super Eagles extended their winning streak in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification with a 10-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe today.
Nigeria put on a great performance at the Agadir Stadium in Morocco as they completely dominated their opponents.
Victor Osimhen, Terem Moffi, and Moses Simon shone brightly with each getting on the score sheet.
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the three best and worst performers of the game.
Best performers
Victor Osimhen
The Naples attacker was at his devastating best with four goals and two assists (6 goal contributions) against Sao Tome and Principe.
Last week, he scored the winning goal in Super Eagles' 2-1 win over Sierra Leone.
Apart from his goals, his movements tore the opposition defence to shreds. His aerial prowess, pace and power were too much to handle.
His vertical running was almost impossible to track down capping off a great performance from him.
Moses Simon
The Nantes forward has already begun to disprove his critics, as he has been an unstoppable force for Nigeria in the AFCON qualifiers.
Simon contributed one goal and one assist to the dismantling of Sao Tome and Principe but his greatest work lay in his on and off-the-ball moments.
Oghenekaro Etebo
What an outing by the Stoke City midfielder. Marshalling the midfield and screening the defence beautifully.
Outstanding choices of pass and great composure on the ball. The performance was capped with a sumptuous freekick which smashed in off the crossbar. Impossible to overlook going forward.
Worst performers
Ola Aina
Needs to do more in balancing his forward forays with his defending. He lacks defensive awareness when on the overlap.
Conceded free-kicks and a yellow card for cutting opponents down after being caught out of position. Could have been punished by better opposition.
Abdullahi Shehu
Replaced Aina but didn't do much to justify the substitution. Didn't get forward at all and looked a bit shaky when attacks went down his flank.
Facing better opposition, his limitations may have caused more issues.
Sadiq Umar
Good intentions but bad execution. Had a good chance to cause more damage in the 73rd minute but his pass to Osimhen was badly executed despite his good work to move the ball quickly.
Will have to do a lot more to stake a claim ahead of the likes of Moffi, Dessers and Dennis.
