'He wants to make history' - African football guru convinced Osimhen will stay at Napoli
Published: August 07, 2022Malu Mpasinkatu, widely regarded as Italy's number one pundit on African football matters, is convinced Victor Osimhen will be a Napoli player at the close of the summer transfer window amid speculation linking him with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium.
It has been suggested that several Premier League clubs are keen to pounce on the Nigeria international but the stumbling block to deal is the striker's asking price, with Napoli valuing him in excess of 100 million euros.
After an indifferent start to his career at the Blues, Osimhen's form in the 2021-2022 season would have delighted Napoli fans with 18 goals in all competitions and he scooped the award for the best U23 player in the Serie A.
Mpasinkatu revealed that Osimhen would like to go down in history as one of the top players to feature for Napoli and praised the Nigerian striker for his work-rate but urged him to add more goals to his game.
When asked if Osimhen will stay at Napoli, Mpasinkatu said to Tuttomercatoweb, via Area Napoli : "He wants to make history in Naples, yes. But he has too much enthusiasm, he must be more lucid.
"He is a high profile striker, he's fine to fight for the team but he has to score".
Osimhen has three years left on his contract with Napoli, whom he joined from Lille for a club record fee of seventy million euros.
