UCL playoff : PSV's Super Eagles-eligible winger will not face Glasgow Rangers
Published: August 24, 2022England U21 international of Nigerian descent Nonso Madueke will not play for PSV Eindhoven when they take on Glasgow Rangers in a crucial UEFA Champions League playoff tie on Wednesday. August 24.
The Tottenham Hotspur academy product has been ruled out of the game as he is currently recovering from a serious injury.
Madueke sustained an ankle injury following a collision in training last month and is not expected to return to action until the second half of the season, meaning it is all but confirmed that he won't gatecrash England's 2022 World Cup roster.
The winger is one of two Nigeria-eligible players registered in PSV's Champions League squad, the other being
Netherlands U17 international Emmanuel van de Blaak.
Van de Blaak has had his own injury problems, which has kept him out of action since November 2021, and is unlikely to be named in the matchday squad against Rangers.
As for Rangers, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will not be able to count on the services of ex-Flying Eagles midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh.
The future of Ofoborh at the Light Blues is unclear as he has been sidelined due to a heart issue since his arrival in Glasgow last summer.
Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by PSV in the first leg of the Champions League playoff at Ibrox Stadium last week.
