Nigeria-eligible CB helps Celtic maintain unbeaten home record under Postecoglou
Published: October 01, 2022Super Eagles-eligible center back Moritz Jenz helped champions Glasgow Celtic maintain their unbeaten home record in the Scottish Premiership under Ange Postecoglou on Saturday.
For the visit of Motherwell, Jenz retained his place in the starting lineup as a result of the unavailability of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt who are both recovering from injuries.
Despite training with the first team on Thursday and Friday, there was no place in the matchday squad for Republic of Ireland U21 international of Nigerian descent Bosun Lawal.
The 23-year-old Jenz put in an okay performance for the Hoops in their 2-1 win over the Steelmen at Celtic Park.
The German-born defender played the entire duration of the game, making six clearances and one successful interception.
Kyogo Furuhashi broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, giving the hosts the lead.
The Japanese star shot from close range after Kelly parried an O'Riley header on the line but nine minutes before halftime, the visitors were back on level terms.
Joe Hart misread a back pass from Josip Juranović and it trickled over the line.
At halftime, there was nothing to separate both sides as it ended 1-1 apiece.
The resumption of the remaining half saw Celtic apply more pressure and in the 64th minute Reo Hatate restored the lead for Postecoglou's men.
Since his appointment in June 2021, the Scottish giants have not lost the twenty two league games at home he has been in charge of.
The win keeps Celtic at the top of the standings, with 21 points from eight games.
Jenz has featured six times and has scored twice in the league for Celtic this season.
