Napoli 4 Ajax 2 : Osimhen scores, Bassey assists as Super Eagles stars exchange jerseys
Published: October 12, 2022Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen scored in Napoli's 4-2 win over Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League, returning to action after spending five weeks on the sidelines.
The 23-year-old was brought on in the 50th minute as a replacement for Giacomo Raspadori.
Nigerian youngster Calvin Bassey was also on parade for the Eredivisie giants, featuring for the entire duration of the game.
It didn't take long before the hosts got into the lead. Piotr Zieliński assisted Hirving Lozano to score in the 4th minute.
Just eight minutes later, the Parthenopeans got their second of the night as Raspadori found the back of the net following a delightful pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Dutch giants came out in the second half with the intention to salvage something from the game, and it paid off four minutes into the second half.
Calvin Bassey's well whipped cross was met by the head of Davy Klaassen.
Napoli extended their lead in the 62nd after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia converted a spot kick.
Bassey got booked in the 66th minute after stopping an attack from Mathias Oliveira.
Osimhen thought he had found the back of the net in the 79th minute but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Ajax would go on to reduce the deficit once again, as Steven Bergwijn scored from penalty spot in the 83rd minute.
Osimhen finally found the back of the net in the 89th minute after stealing the ball from Daley Blind.and was given a yellow card for taking off his shirt while celebrating.
Bassey and his international teammate exchanged jerseys on the pitch shortly after the final whistle.
