Tottenham Hotspur loanee Udogie sets season record in key defensive stat in Serie A
Published: October 31, 2022Tottenham Hotspur loanee Destiny Udogie set a season record in a key defensive stat during Udinese's goalless draw with Cremonese in an Italian Serie A game staged at the Stadio Giovanni Zini (Cremona) on Sunday afternoon.
Udogie was one of five players of Nigerian descent named in the starting lineup, with Isaac Success also starting for the Bianconeri, while Cyriel Dessers, David Okereke and Emanuel Aiwu started for the home team.
According to football statisticians Whoscored, Udogie won the ball in Udinese's defensive third ten times, a record in a Serie A match this season.
Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a significant transfer coup by luring the Italian-Nigerian to north London in the summer but he was immediately loaned to Udinese to complete the season and continue his development.
The exciting defender has picked up where he left off last season with two goals and one assist in eleven appearances in the Italian top-flight this term.
If Udogie keeps producing the form he's in at the moment, a senior call-up to the Italian or Nigerian squad is inevitable in the not too distant future.
The 19-year-old, who made the final shortlist for the 2022 Golden Boy, has caps for Italy's U16-U21 teams.
