How Orban can learn from Osimhen to determine his next career move
Published: March 17, 2023Gift Orban has had an outstanding start to his career with KAA Gent scoring 12 goals in 9 games for the Belgian club, 7 of those goals coming in the last 2 games.
Orban has stated his desire to play in the English topflight but needs to be patient and take a cue from his older Nigerian brother, Victor Osimhen. Here is what I mean.
Before Osimhen moved to Napoli, he played for Sporting Charleroi in Belgium, VfL Wolfsburg in Germany and Lille in France in a bid to polish his game. Despite this, he was still subjected to huge criticism after his first season in Napoli.
The 20-year-old just joined Gent in February and the talk of him wanting to leave the club is premature. Despite his brilliant start to life, Orban still needs to improve his game and become the finished article.
Without any pressure, he can cut his teeth with Gent before moving to any of the teams in the top 5 leagues in Europe.
The media coverage in Belgium is not as huge as it is in the English Premier League or any of the top 5 leagues where new players are quickly thrown under the bus if they don't hit the ground running quickly.
Just like Osimhen did, Orban should spend some time playing for clubs like Gent where expectations are not huge before moving to a top team in England or any team in the top five leagues in Europe.
