Atubolu: Record-breaking GK once targeted by two ex-Super Eagles coaches suffers shoulder injury

Record-breaking goalkeeper Noah Atubolu will be out of action until further notice after suffering a shoulder injury.

Bundesliga club SC Freiburg confirmed through official channels on Tuesday that Atubolu is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a shoulder capsule injury.

The Germany U21 international of Nigerian descent was injured in a collision with teammate Philipp Lienhart during Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin and had to be substituted after 58 minutes.

Last month, the dual-national goalkeeper became the first Freiburg goalkeeper to go 510 minutes without conceding a goal, breaking the previous record held by club legend Richard Golz set in the 2001-2002 season.

This season, Atubolu has posted ten clean sheets in twenty-four appearances in the Bundesliga.

Born in Freiburg im Breisgau to a German mother and Nigerian father, the 22-year-old was a player of interest to two former Super Eagles Gernot Rohr and Jose Peseiro but decided to remain with Germany for the time being.

Alongside Eintracht Frankfurt's rising star Nnamdi Collins, Atubolu is among the Nigerian prospects being monitored by Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Atubolu is likely to be replaced by Florian Muller for Freiburg's home game against Borussia Dortmund this Saturday.
