Three-time World Cupper joins Super Falcons pre-Haiti, three NWSLers yet to show up

Super Falcons manager Randy Waldrum now has twenty players at his disposal ahead of the national team's first fixture this month against Haiti at the Emir Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey on Friday, April 7.

The latest player to report for international duty is veteran striker Desire Oparanozie, who joined the team in Antalya before lunch time on Wednesday.

The Wuhan Chegu Jianghan star is aiming to represent Nigeria in her fourth World Cup, having featured in three consecutive editions of the tournament in 2011, 2015 and 2019.

American football tactician Waldrum started running the rule over the players in camp on Wednesday at the Emir Sports Complex, Antalya.

Among the players still being expected to report for international duty are three NWSLers in the shape of NJ/NY Gotham FC's Ifeoma Onumonu, Racing Louisville's Uchenna Kanu and Houston Dash's Michelle Alozie.

American-based Jennifer Onyi Echegini, who was handed a late invite, and Deportivo Alavés defender Ohale Osinhachi are also being awaited.

After suffering seven defeats on the bounce, the Super Falcons returned to winning ways in their last outing, beating another World Cup-bound team Costa Rica 1-0, courtesy of Esther Okoronkwo's match-winning strike.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria will do battle with English speaking countries Australia, Republic of Ireland and Canada in the group stage of the 2023 Women's World Cup.
