Man Utd legend Hargreaves insists Osimhen is irreplaceable ahead of Milan's visit to Napoli
Published: April 13, 2023Speaking after Napoli were beaten 1-0 by AC Milan in a Champions League game on Wednesday night, Manchester United legend Owen Hargreaves has identified Victor Osimhen as one of the irreplaceable players in the Napoli squad.
The Serie A champions in waiting have not been playing particularly well since losing their number 9 to injury with two defeats to the Rossoneri while they struggled to secure a win over one of the unfancied teams in the Italian top-flight, Lecce.
Napoli created a couple of chances in last night's defeat to AC Milan but lacked a clinical striker to convert them.
Hargreaves has highlighted that the Parthenopeans do not have enough squad depth compared to their rivals for the Champions League trophy and reckons that Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are the spine of the Napoli team.
While Osimhen has been involved in 30 goals across all competitions so far this season, the Georgian dazzler also has thirty goal involvements to his name.
"I don't think they have the quality to replace Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen. If you look at the teams, you look at Real Madrid and Manchester City, those type of teams the amount of depth they have, five or six players," Hargreaves said on BT Sport.
"Napoli are a brilliant team to watch but without two or three star players, no Kim and as Eni said no Osimhen. Anguissa is a huge blow to Spalletti."
Osimhen is recovering from a muscle injury he suffered while on international duty with the Super Eagles last month and is racing against the clock to be in tiptop condition for the return leg at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Tuesday, April 18.
