Degryse rates Boniface higher than Gift Orban, likens Union SG star to Thierry Henry
Published: April 13, 2023
Retired Belgium international Marc Degryse reckons that Victor Boniface is a better player than Gift Orban, and has likened the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star to legendary Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.
Boniface has been in sensational form since his transfer to Union SG, with a goal involvement of 23 in all competitions, including seven in the Europa League.
Only Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has scored more goals than Boniface in this season's Europa League.
Since transferring from Stabæk Fotball in January, Orban's numbers for KAA Gent have been out of this world, having tallied fourteen goals in twelve matches and the highlight of his performance was scoring the quickest hat-trick in the history of UEFA club competition against İstanbul Başakşehir last month.
Orban has found the net on five occasions in the Europa Conference League, bettered only by Fiorentina's Luka Jovic.
Although the two Nigerian strikers have a lot in common, Degryse believes Boniface is slightly better than Orban.
"He has been here since the summer and is one step further than Orban," Degryse told Het Laatste Nieuws, via Voetbal Nieuws.
"He is simply unstoppable. Against Union Berlin he played with such confidence - a bit like Thierry Henry even back then.
"Boniface, that's like Undav, but much better. He's a player who won't play here next summer. And he is also ready for the next step. Just a little more than Orban."
Boniface and Orban are attracting interest from clubs in the top five European Leagues ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
