Eletu yet to join Flying Eagles camp as AC Milan hold crucial talks with player's dad over release
Published: May 14, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that there is tension in the camp of the Flying Eagles following the non-arrival of AC Milan wonderkid Victor Eletu, a week before the national team's 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup opener against Dominican Republic.
Eletu has already been issued a visa to Argentina and has been sent a flight ticket but the powers that be at the Rossoneri have not yet given the player the green light to link up with his international teammates.
The versatile midfielder is seen as an important player for AC Milan's Primavera squad and the Serie A giants are not planning to release him to the Nigeria Football Federation until the very last minute.
Eletu opened his goalscoring account in the Primavera 1 on Friday as AC Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Inter Milan in their penultimate home game of the 2022-2023 season.
The release of the 18-year-old is complicated because the FIFA U20 World Cup is not on the FIFA calendar for international matches, so AC Milan have no obligation to release Eletu for the tournament.
The Nigerian Federation are still in touch with AC Milan and are pleading with the club to release Eletu as soon as possible
Everything will become clearer within the next twenty four hours, with crucial talks between the leadership of AC Milan and Eletu's father planned for Sunday, May 14.
Eletu was originally supposed to join the Nigeria U20 squad in Argentina last week.
The talented midfielder remains in the plans of Nigeria U20 boss Ladan Bosso and it should be highlighted that he's worth waiting for as he's playing week in, week out, which underlines the importance of the player to Milan and the Flying Eagles.
