'I can't sleep well if I lose' - Chukwueze vows to give everything to qualify for 2023 AFCON
Published: June 16, 2023Samuel Chukwueze has vowed to give everything to help the Super Eagles qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Villarreal winger will be hoping he can take his good form into the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in Monrovia on Sunday, June 18.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner registered 24 goals involvements in fifty all-competition appearances for the Yellow Submarine last term, his best in a single season since turning professional.
Nigeria need only a point from their remaining two games in Group A of the AFCON qualifiers to secure a ticket to next year's tournament in Ivory Coast, having won three of their first four games in the qualifiers.
Chukwueze has confessed that he finds it difficult to deal with defeat and wants the Super Eagles to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations as quickly as possible.
Speaking to reporters in Lagos about the upcoming game against Sierra Leone, Chukwueze stated: "We are going to win, that's the most important thing because I don't like losing.
"If I lose I can't sleep well, it disturbs my mental health. I love winning because we need to win to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
"If we win, it will be fantastic for us. On Sunday we are giving everything to qualify."
Aged 24, Chukwueze has already participated in two Africa Cup of Nations and was on target against South Africa and Sudan in the 2019 and 2021 tournament respectively.
