Super Eagles striker turns down new contract at Bordeaux amid Rangers links
Published: July 04, 2023Rangers-linked striker Josh Maja has turned down a contract renewal proposal from French Ligue 2 side Bordeaux.
According to L'Equipe (subscription required), the striker has refused to respond to the one-year extension offer (plus an optional year in the event of a rise) from the French side.
Having failed to respond to the offer within the time set by Bordeaux, they have now deemed that he does not want to continue his career at the club and are exploring alternatives.
Maja'a contract with the French second-tier side ended on the 30th of June, 2023 and is now a free agent and has been linked with a move to Scottish giants, Rangers.
The one-cap Nigerian International joined the Girondins in 2019 on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Sunderland.
He struggled for most of his contract with the French outfit as he didn't hit the ground running until the last campaign when he scored 17 goals in all competitions.
Alongside Rangers, Spanish outfits Alavés and Real Valladolid and French Ligue 1 outfits Reims and Brest are also interested in the services of the Nigerian striker.
