Versatile Irish-Nigerian defender agrees new deal with Celtic ahead of loan move
Published: August 12, 2023Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are planning to tie Republic of Ireland U21 international of Nigerian descent Bosun Lawal down to a new contract before rubber-stamping a loan move to the English Football League.
Football Insider says the defender is set to put pen to paper on a new deal and then head out on loan to League One club Fleetwood Town.
By getting Lawal to commit his future to the club, The Hoops can demand a transfer fee for the player rather than allow him leave for nothing when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Lawal was courted by several clubs in England but Fleetwood Town are in the driving seat for his signature.
Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown knows about the qualities of the Irish-Nigerian starlet, having donned the colours of Celtic for fourteen years before landing his first managerial role.
Since his arrival at Celtic, Lawal has mostly been used as a centre-back but has shown his versatility by slotting in comfortably in midfield when the need arises.
The 20-year-old is highly-rated within the Celtic hierarchy and trained with the first team during their pre-season preparations.
Having played just one competitive game for the senior squad, Lawal is set to embark on a loan move in search of first team football.
