'A huge talent' - Chelsea's youngest PL debutant reckons Blues are getting Olise on the cheap
Published: August 17, 2023Chelsea's youngest Premier League debutant in history, Jody Morris reckons that the Blues are getting 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise on the cheap.
The France U21 international of Nigerian and Algerian descent has a £35 million release clause in his Crystal Palace contract which has been triggered by Chelsea, paving the way for the Blues to begin discussing personal terms with the winger.
Olise took the Premier League by storm in 2022-2023, with thirteen goal contributions including eleven assists in 37 outings.
The 21-year-old took home a hat-trick of awards at the Crystal Palace End of Season awards, winning not only Players’ Player of the Season but also Goal of the Season and Moment of the Season.
In these days of inflated transfer fees, Morris has suggested that Olise's valuation should have been higher given his enormous talent and with top clubs interested in his signature.
Morris, who made his Premier League debut for Chelsea 43 days after his 17th birthday, said on Sky Sports' Transfer Show: "If you look at Olise, someone who's actually at Chelsea academy from a young age to around 13.
"I know Crystal Palace fans and Roy Hodgson in particular won't like me saying it but he's a huge talent. Another one who I think matured,if you look at his performances over the past 18 months, he's a fantastic talent.
"He's not only attracting interest from obviously the Premier League and the likes of Chelsea, but there were some big European clubs that have been keeping an eye on him.
"Whether the price is satisfying for everybody, particularly Crystal Palace, because you'd have to say the type of prices that are going around at the moment, you'd be wanting a little bit more from someone of the quality of Michael Olise."
Former Chelsea schoolboy Olise has a contract with Crystal Palace until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
