Wanted striker Gift Orban sends message to Tottenham with sixth goal in six games for Gent
Published: August 20, 2023Nigerian striker Gift Orban sent a transfer message to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur by putting in another goalscoring display as KAA Gent came from two goals down to earn a point in a Belgian Pro League clash against Sint-Truiden at the Ghelamco Arena on Sunday.
After bringing in James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Véliz, Ashley Phillips and Manor Solomon this summer, the recruitment is not over for Tottenham as they are believed to be in the market for a prolific striker to replace club legend Harry Kane who has completed a transfer to Bayern Munich.
Tottenham have held discussions over the transfer of Orban but have not yet firmed up their interest by making an official bid to Gent.
Aboubakary Keita broke the deadlock for the away team in the 7th minute before Mathias Delorge doubled their advantage in the 13th minute.
Orban began Gent's comeback when he nodded the ball in from Tsuyoshi Watanabe's header in the 35th minute and German-born Nigerian defender Jordan Torunarigha drew level from Sven Kums' corner kick in the 58th minute.
The Tottenham Hotspur target has now scored 6 goals in 6 games across all competitions for Gent this season, further proof of his efficiency in front of goal.
The 21-year-old Orban will have the chance to increase his tally for the season when the Belgian outfit face APOEL Nicosia in the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff on Thursday at the Ghelamco Arena.
