Official: Super Eagles goalkeeper joins Udinese on permanent transfer
Published: August 24, 2023With a statement on their official website, Italian Serie A club Udinese have announced the signing of Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from Watford.
Okoye has put pen to paper on a four-year deal that will keep him at the Bianconeri until June 30, 2027.
The 23-year-old has left Watford permanently due to a lack of first team opportunities, with only two appearances from a possible 49 over the course of the 2022-2023 campaign.
He initially signed for the Hornets in January 2022 but was immediately loaned back to Sparta Rotterdam to complete the season, before returning to Watford last summer.
Okoye spent time with the youth teams of DJK SC Flingern 08, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Fortuna Dusseldorf, before transferring to Sparta Rotterdam, for whom he made 61 first team appearances while conceding 78 goals and posting 18 clean sheets.
The German-born glovesman has sixteen caps for the Super Eagles but has not featured for the senior national team since January 2022 due to his inactivity at Watford.
For the remainder of the 2023-2024 season, Okoye will play with the number 40 on the back of his Udinese jersey.
He links up with Isaac Success, Kingsley Ehizibue and Festy Ebosele at Udinese.
