'Some even compare him to Napoli star Osimhen' - Danish media hails Arsenal U18 hat-trick hero Obi
Published: September 24, 2023Danish-born Nigerian wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin has received rave reviews after his sensational performance during Arsenal's 4-0 rout of Southampton in an U18 Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.
At the age of 15 years and 298 days on Saturday, too young to even sign a scholarship, Obi-Martin netted a hat-trick on his starting debut for Arsenal U18s in the U18 Premier League as they defeated Southampton 4-0 win.
It was his first competitive goals for Arsenal youth teams in what was his fifth appearance in all competitions for the age group.
Obi-Martin is undoubtedly one for the future and the fact that the English Football Association and Danish Football Association are battling for his services is a testament to his abilities.
The super talented teenager has drawn comparisons with Ballon d'Or and The Best FIFA Men's Player nominee Victor Osimhen due to his playing style and physical attributes.
Reviewing Obi's performance against Southampton, celebrated Danish sports magazine Tipsbladet wrote: "A quick search on the social media X after Saturday's win yields a sea of wide-eyed comments and a lot of expectations for the Danish teenager. Some even compare him to Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
"However, it will probably take a few more years before Chido Obi reaches all the way there, but he is at least on the right path, something could indicate."
Obi-Martin has already agreed a scholarship deal with Arsenal ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 season.
