Former striker names Osimhen among the two players with leadership qualities in Napoli squad
Published: October 11, 2023Former Napoli striker Cristian Bucchi has publicly endorsed Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo as the undisputed leaders of the Napoli squad.
Bucchi's comments come amidst Napoli's struggles this season, a period marred by controversies and internal strife.
Osimhen, in particular, has faced challenges within the team, notably exacerbated by a TikTok video and an unlicensed doll with his features.
Osimhen's struggles also extended to the field, where he faced a goal drought of four games in all competitions.
The pressure mounted, and critics questioned his form and ability to lead Napoli's attack effectively.
In a dramatic turn, the Nigerian striker silenced his critics by delivering outstanding performances in the subsequent games, scoring in his last three Serie A matches before the international break.
Bucchi, addressing Napoli's recent challenges and the necessity for dressing room leadership, highlighted Osimhen and Di Lorenzo's exemplary leadership qualities.
"Napoli is a healthy group. I had the pleasure of seeing them up close, and I can tell how close they are. Di Lorenzo can certainly be among the charismatic men of the team," Bucchi told 1 Station Radio via Napoli Magazine,
"Osimhen is also a leader of the Azzurri. Precisely for this reason, the reaction to Bologna's substitution surprised me, even if I think it was simple frustration at the missed penalty.
He added: "The Nigerian is also a leader in his gestures, he always applauds his teammates and never complains to the team. These are attitudes that can help the collective".
Osimhen's recent exploits have not only helped Napoli secure crucial points but also reaffirmed his status as a key player in the squad.
With six goals in eight league games, he has become a vital asset for the team, making substantial contributions to their overall performance.
