Eight things to note on Super Eagles starting lineup against Saudi Arabia
Published: October 13, 2023Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup for the international friendly match against Saudi Arabia at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão.
Allnigeriasoccer.com's editorial staff brings you eight things to note on the starting lineup to face the Green Falcons.
1) Jose Peseiro has made four changes from the side that thrashed Sao Tome and Príncipe 6-0, inserting Tyronne Ebuehi, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Boniface.
2) The eleven players selected in the starting lineup have an average age of 25 years, with Semi Ajayi the oldest at 29 years and Victor Boniface the youngest at 22 years.
3) Seven of the eleven starters are aged 25 or younger: Uzoho, Onyemaechi, Bassey, Chukwueze, Lookman, Osimhen, Boniface.
4) Boniface is the second Bayer Leverkusen player to start a game for the Super Eagles, after 1993 Fifa U17 World Cup winner Karibe Ojigwe.
5) Seven of the starters play for clubs in the top five European leagues: Ebuehi, Bassey, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Lookman, Osimhen, Lookman.
6) Alex Iwobi and Francis Uzoho are starting their tenth game under Jose Peseiro, more than any other player in the squad.
7) Osimhen will become Nigeria's second highest goalscorer in history, surpassing Segun Odegbammi (22) if he manages to score a hat-trick against Saudi Arabia.
8) Two substitutes could make their international debuts: centre-back Jordan Torunarigha, midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru
