Super Eagles CB Torunarigha says he has been watching Brazil's all-time top scorer to improve his game
Published: November 08, 2023Jordan Torunarigha has revealed that he has been watching Brazil's all-time top scorer Neymar Júnior to improve his game offensively.
Known for his defensive prowess, the former Germany youth international is keen to add to his skillset to become an all-round defender.
The 26-year-old is already showing signs of improvement in the final third having notched three goals and two assists in the Jupiler Pro League last season and has a goal and an assist this term for Gent.
The centre-back has disclosed that he has been studying Neymar to take his game to the next level.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad (subscription required) Torunarigha said: "I have often studied Neymar's actions, but sometimes I should perhaps have taken my chance or given a hard cross.
"You can expect this from me. By the way, I can do even better.
"We just have to ensure that our defense remains as compact as possible and we can still take steps in that direction."
In contrast to his fellow countryman Gift Orban, Torunarigha has been one of the regular starters for Gent this campaign, starting a combined 18 games in the Jupiler Pro League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
He is in contention to be named in the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
