'A team made of up very fantastic players' - Lesotho coach says he expects tough match against Super Eagles
Published: November 15, 2023Lesotho caretaker coach Leslie Notsi has complimented the Super Eagles and is expecting a tough game when his side and the three-time African champions clash tomorrow in their first game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Crocodiles have never qualified for the World Cup and will be hoping to end their long wait to participate at the tournament at the end of the qualifications series.
Due to the expansion of the competition, Africa have been given 9 slots for the next edition which could benefit countries like Lesotho who are still waiting for their first participation at the tournament.
Speaking ahead of the Crocodiles meeting with Nigeria tomorrow, Notsi admitted the quality the host have in their ranks and is expecting his side to be competitive in what promises to be a tough game for his players.
"We are playing a tough fixture against one of the best footballing countries in Africa and in the world, a team that has qualified for the World Cups," Notsi told reporters.
"You know we are expecting a tough encounter, a team made up of very fantastic players, fantastic coach and our expectation is to have a very tough match and we are taking this opportunity as a young football nation growing to come and play against the best so that we can help the exposure and experience.
"We have players who are also talented and eager to learn and grow. We are here to honour the fixture with a very competitive mindset and you know that is what we are at the moment."
After confronting Nigeria tomorrow, Lesotho will then face Benin who are being handled by former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, South Africa, their adopted home ground.
