Nigerian-born former Man City defender Onuoha names two Man Utd players who impressed him v Everton

Nigeria-born former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has singled out Luke Shaw and young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo for praise following their performances for Manchester United in the 3-0 triumph over Everton on Sunday at Goodison Park.

Shaw got his first league start since featuring in the 2-0 loss to Tottenham in August as he has been nursing a muscle injury since then and played for 76 minutes in the encounter.

In his post-match analysis on ESPN FC, Onuoha was impressed with the performance of the  28-year-old and believes his return is a big boost for Erik Ten Hag's side.

"I think he has been out for a while. He looks confident in there, defensively, he is very good, and in attack, he is always a threat as well, he is somebody that is very composed," Onuoha said.

" I think he definitely helps Garnacho, helps Lindelof to the side of him, you know it was Man United like vintage defensive performance but I think from a one-on-one level, he is very hard to get around but then he offers something in attack and I think it is a great thing for them to have him back "

Mainoo on the other was handed his first Premier League appearance of the season and his second ever for the club due to the injuries to Mason Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Onuoha also expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the 18-year-old.

"And for Mainoo himself, 18-year-old, I think he was at times the most composed player within that midfield especially in the first half.

"You are looking at Bruno Fernandes, McTominay not being able to get a grip of the game but for him, he was covering the ground well, he cleared one off the line, he was really composed under pressure and he helped build a lot of their attacks and to think that someone that young would need to be that important in that arena at this time.

"Obviously, it is not great but I think it is a great sign that they have someone who in the future could be playing many games for them."

The Manchester United Academy product is in line to make his first-ever Champions League for the club when they face Galatasaray on matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League which is to be played at the RAMS Park in Turkey.

The encounter is a must-win game for the 3-time European champions who sit rock bottom of their group with 3 points from three games.
