Conceded from set pieces five games in a row: Uzoho set to make first start in 204 days for Omonia
Published: December 07, 2023Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will be back in the spotlight on December 10 when Omonia Nicosia clash with Nea Salamis Famagusta FC on gameweek 14 of the Cypriot First Division.
Everything is pointing to the fact that Uzoho will make his first start in 204 days at the Stadio Vitex Ammochostos Epistrofi in Larnaca on Sunday.
Manager Sofronios Avgousti is facing a goalkeeper crisis ahead of the trip to Nea Salamis Famagusta, with first choice goalkeeper Fabiano all but ruled out of the game due to a shoulder injury and Cyprus international Charalampos Kyriakidis also in the treatment room.
Uzoho has climbed the pecking order of goalkeepers due to the injury-enforced absence of his two rivals for a starting spot.
The Nigeria international has logged just 45 minutes this season in all competitions, and was heavily blamed for the loss to Anorthosis after conceding a late free-kick that put the game to bed as Omonia were pushing for an equalizer.
Set pieces continue to be Uzoho's Achilles heel as he has conceded in five consecutive matches combined for club and country from dead balls - against Saudi Arabia, Mozambique,Anorthosis, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The match rusty Uzoho has not started a game for Omoia Nicosia since May 20, 2023.
