Former Barcelona winger reveals how to get the best of Osimhen-Boniface strike partnership
Published: December 16, 2023Former Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amuneke has revealed how the best can be gotten from the striking partnership of Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface.
With the Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro likeness of playing with two strikers, the duo seems to be the preferred forwards of the Portuguese tactician.
The Napoli star and his Bayer Leverkusen counterpart have played together on two occasions, the first being against São Tomé and Príncipe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification and the other in a friendly encounter against Saudi Arabia.
Amuneke in a recent interview has revealed how to get the best out of the duo partnership.
"If you want to play Osimhen and Boniface, you need to consider the availability of good midfielders. It's not even about Osimhen and Boniface, even with Awoniyi or Sadiq Umar. What you need in your team is balance and cohesion," Amuneke stated.
" If your players are only good upfront, one may have issues at holding the ball or stopping the ball. These are the tactical aspects one needs to consider before setting up a team."
Osimhen and Boniface are two of the players that the Super Eagles will be counting upon as we head into the Africa Cup of Nations which will be staged in Ivory Coast next month.
With 21 goals scored across all competitions between them this season, Peseiro will be hoping the two can deliver the goods at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Peseiro has submitted his provisional squad for the tournament with the final list expected to be revealed by January 3.
