16yo son of former Super Eagles LB trains with Chelsea first team ahead of possible U21s debut
Published: January 22, 2024Tri-national midfielder Landon Emenalo reportedly trained with Chelsea's first team last week ahead of a possible debut for the club's development squad in a Premier League Cup clash against Colchester United this evening.
The 16-year-old Landon is the son of former Chelsea technical director and retired Nigeria international left-back Michael Emenalo, who shone for the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha.
As stated in a report by The Standard, the Golden Eaglets-eligible player could be named by Chelsea U21 coach Mark Robinson in his matchday squad for the game against Colchester United in the Premier League Cup later today at the Kingsmeadow Stadium.
Landon Emenalo is left footed and is already showing his versatility as he can play as a holding midfielder, in the box-to-box position, a number 10, and a left back.
The talented midfielder qualifies to represent the United States through his mother, Nigeria through his father, and England which is his country of birth.
He currently represents England U16s and scored in his last game for the Young Lions in their 2-0 win over Ireland in a friendly game last year.
His father played a very vital role in helping Chelsea build a good academy which has produced the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
He could be the next star to be produced by the club if he continues to develop his game.
