Tosin reveals four things that have impressed him about defender who recently signed new Chelsea deal
Published: December 19, 2024Tosin Adarabioyo has shared four key attributes of England U20 international of Ghanaian descent, Josh Acheampong.
The uncertainty surrounding Acheampong's future has been resolved, with Chelsea confirming on Wednesday that the young, versatile right-back has signed a new deal until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
A product of Chelsea's academy, Acheampong has made three appearances for the first team, including debuts in the UEFA Conference League, Carabao Cup and Premier League.
The 27-year-old Tosin has assumed a leadership and mentorship role within the Chelsea squad, playing a key part in guiding the club's younger players and supporting their development both on and off the pitch.
Tosin is confident in the abilities of Acheampong and has been instrumental in ensuring his smooth transition into the first team setup.
The former Manchester City youth team skipper is impressed by Acheampong's pace, strength, ball control and confidence, and believes he has the potential to become a world-class defender.
Reacting to Acheampong's new deal, Tosin told Chelsea's official webpage: "It’s great news, I’m happy to see that. He’s an amazing player and I’m very excited to see he’s here to stay.
"Josh has absolutely everything to be a top, top defender. He’s quick, he’s strong, he’s amazing on the ball, and he has a lot of confidence which I love to see in a young defender.
"I try to encourage him to be as vocal as possible because I think it’s a really important aspect as a defender and he’s learning to do so."
Tosin is in contention to make his fourteenth appearance for Chelsea on Thursday night when they take on Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Conference League.
The Nigeria Football Federation target has started all the matches played by Chelsea in Europe this season, except for the away game at Panathinaikos, where he was a non-playing substitute.
