Indomitable Lions team news: Song handed double injury boost as Aboubakar, N'Jie train fully pre-Nigeria
Published: January 25, 2024Indomitable Lions manager Rigobert Song has been handed a double injury boost ahead of his side's highly anticipated blockbuster Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 tie against the Super Eagles.
According to Le Bled Parle, Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar and former Tottenham Hotspur winger Clinton N'Jie returned to group training on Wednesday, three days before the meeting with Nigeria.
None of the aforementioned players has featured for the Indominable Lions in the ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast as they had been recovering from injuries.
Aboubakar and N'Jie performed all the exercises without difficulty during yesterday's training session in Bouaké.
The duo were members of the Cameroon squad that won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and have scored against Nigeria in the past, with N'Jie on target in a round of 16 2019 AFCON clash at the Alexandria Stadium and Aboubakar netting in a World Cup qualifier in Yaounde in 2017.
Cameroon scored five goals during the group stage but there are signs that they have defensive frailties having shipped in six goals, an average of two per game.
On the other hand, the Super Eagles were defensively solid with two clean sheets in three matches, though they struggled to convert their chances.
Nigeria will face off with Cameroon at the Félix Houphouët Boigny Stadium on January 27, 2023, kickoff 2100 hours.
