Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves players eligible for Golden Eaglets star as Young Lions beat Sweden
Published: February 24, 2024Three players eligible to represent the Golden Eaglets impressed for England as they sealed a comfortable 4-0 win over Sweden at the U16 Federations Cup on Friday, February 23, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Young Lions boss Neil Ryan handed starts to Arsenal goalkeeper Owen Asemota, Chelsea winger Rio Ngumoha and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Wesley Okoduwa.
Okoduwa is the son of retired Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Okoduwa who wore the colours of Arsenal Kyiv and Dynamo Kyiv among others during his playing days.
England U16s dominated proceedings and were rewarded for their efforts in the 38th minute when Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez opened the scoring.
And by the hour mark, it was game over with Ryan McAidoo, Rio Ngumoha and Harrison Miles getting on the score sheet.
Ngumoha is highly thought of by the powers that be at Chelsea, with manager Mauricio Pochettino inviting him to train with the first team stars including Raheem Sterling before he reported for England duty.
The 2008-born player has already made his debut for Chelsea U18s and development squad whilst still a schoolboy.
Arsenal goalkeeper Asemota has been offered a scholarship for the 2024-2025 season but the likes of likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa are monitoring his situation.
