Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scores hat-trick against his 'favourite' European opponent
Published: February 28, 2024
Victor Osimhen reached double digits for goals in the league for the sixth consecutive season as Napoli demolished US Sassuolo 6-1 in a Serie A clash at Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore on Wednesday night.
After Uroš Račić opened the scoring with his first goal in the Serie A, Napoli central defender Amir Rrahmani restored parity just before the half hour mark.
Napoli had a two-goal lead at the interval courtesy of Osimhen's pair of goals in the 31st and 41st minute that took him to double figures for the season in the Serie A.
The Nigeria international bagged his hat-trick, his second ever in the Italian top-flight, two minutes into the second half when he finished off an assist from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Osimhen returned the favour four minutes later with an assist for Napoli's fifth goal scored by the Georgia winger.
Kvaratskhelia put the icing on the cake by closing the scoring in the 75th minute, a minute before Osimhen was substituted.
US Sassuolo happen to be Osimhen's favorite European opponent as he has netted nine goals in six matches against the Black and Greens, three more than against any opponent since turning professional.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has bagged six career goals against Udinese and has notched five goals each in matches against Bologna, Cagliari and Sampdoria.
