Big blow for Zirkzee: Dual-national striker will not make his senior debut for the Netherlands this month
Published: March 12, 2024Bologna forward Joshua Zikrzee will not make his senior debut for the Netherlands this month and this is official.
At the start of this month, the Bayern Munich youth team product was picked by manager Ronald Koeman in a 30-man provisional squad for the March internationals against Scotland and Germany.
Since then, Zirkzee has taken his tally to eleven goals in 30 appearances for Bologna, having found the net in a 2-1 win against Ademola Lookman's Atalanta.
The Netherlands U21 international was forced off injured in the closing minutes of Bologna's 1-0 loss to Inter Milan last weekend.
Bologna, through their official website, have issued a medical bulletin, stating that the Dutch-Nigerian player picked up a muscle injury according to medical tests on Monday morning and is likely to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.
The 22-year-old is not expected to return to action until after the March international break, around the beginning of next month, if his rehabilitation goes according to plan.
Zirkzee will miss Bologna's trip to Empoli on Friday and will probably not be available for selection for the visit of U.S. Salernitana on April 1.
His form this season has seen him linked with top clubs in the Serie A, Premier League and La Liga.
