Napoli have news on Osimhen's fitness ahead of Serie A clash against Lookman's Atalanta
Published: March 26, 2024
Italian Serie A defending champions Napoli have provided an update on the condition of Victor Osimhen ahead of the matchday 30 fixture against Ademola Lookman's Atalanta at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
Osimhen was asked by Napoli to pull out of the Nigeria squad for their March internationals against Ghana and Mali due to fitness issues.
The Nigeria international remained on the bench during Napoli's last Serie A encounter against Inter Milan, with Blues coach Francesco Calzona disclosing prior to the match that the number 9 was struggling to recover from a previous injury.
According to Napoli's official website, Osimhen is still undergoing individual training ahead of the visit of Atalanta.
However, the Parthenopeans' medical team is doing everything possible to get him fit for Saturday's clash, a game that could have a big say on the Champions League spots at the end of the campaign.
Napoli are currently occupying the seventh position in the table with 45 points, two less than sixth place Atalanta.
Osimhen has mustered eleven goals in this season's Serie A but has not found the net in open play against teams in the top half of the table.
The African Footballer of the Year was on target against Frosinone (2), Sassuolo (4), Udinese, Lecce and Cagliari (2) and scored from the spot in a 3-1 loss to Fiorentina back in October.
