Trabzonspor eye move for Nwakali's teammate as potential replacement for Southampton loanee Onuachu
Published: March 28, 2024Trabzonspor are facing uncertainty over the future of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, whom they signed on loan from Southampton last summer.
Onuachu's tenure at Trabzonspor has been marked by impressive performances, but his permanent stay at the club is in question due to Southampton's hefty transfer demands.
Having struggled to make an impact in the Premier League after his move from Genk, Onuachu sought refuge in Turkey to reignite his career.
Since joining Trabzonspor, the Super Eagles striker has showcased his prowess by netting nine goals and providing three assists in seventeen appearances, becoming a key figure in the team's setup.
However, negotiations for Onuachu's permanent transfer have hit a roadblock as Southampton are reportedly demanding a transfer fee exceeding 10 million Euros, as per reports from Fanatik .
This price tag has left Trabzonspor scrambling to explore alternative options to bolster their attacking line-up.
In light of these challenges, Trabzonspor has turned its attention to Hector Hernandez, a 29-year-old Spanish striker who is teammates with Nigeria international Kelechi Nwakali at Portuguese setup GD Chaves.
Hernandez has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Onuachu.
With an impressive tally of 13 goals in 25 Liga Portugal matches this season, Hernandez brings a proven scoring ability to the table.
Onuachu is under contract with Southampton until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
